Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
Can a homeowner install sod?
If you can understand “Green Side Up,” you can successfully install sod. Because turfgrass sod can be heavy, the help of a few friends is recommended.
Do you deliver?
We have a delivery minimum of 1500sf and can fit up to 12,000sf per tractor trailer. Any orders below the minimum can still be ordered for pick up!
Do you sell to homeowners?
Of course! We sell to homeowners, landscapers, contractors, garden centers, and municipalities.
How much lead time is needed for sod?
To assure availability, sod should be ordered a week to ten business days prior to delivery, and by 10am the day before you'd like to pickup.
When is the best time to lay sod?
If the ground is free of frost, sod may be effectively installed. Spring and Fall are considered to be the best times because of cooler temperatures and more available moisture.
Can I lay sod on a slope?
Sod is proven to be much better at retaining water, preventing soil erosion, and providing instant cover and protection to sloped areas. Staples may be needed to hold the sod in place during the rooting process. We have packs of 100 for sale in the office!
How much sod do I need?
Determine the total square footage by measuring (in feet) the length and width of each area. Multiply length times width to get square footage. One roll of sod will cover ten square feet(5x2). A standard pallet covers 540 square feet and a full semi-truck covers 12,000 square feet. We cut to order so it's always good to have your measurements before calling
How long should I stay off the sod?
Try to keep all dogs, kids, and yourself off the freshly laid sod for 3 weeks or until fully rooted in.
Do I need to get rid of old grass first?
Yes, you will need to kill off and remove any existing grass. You can use a weed killer about two weeks before your sod arrives. A rototiller, sod cutter, or even just a shovel will help you get rid of the dead grass.
How do I get my sod?
Sod comes in rolls (2’x5’) on pallets. Each pallet holds anywhere from 500-600 sf per pallet. If you do a pickup, we can assist you loading loose rolls into the car or we have forklifts for loading full pallets into trucks or onto a trailer. For delivery, our truck will arrive with your sod and be unloaded by our machine and distributed as needed.
